Ltd Velokurjers fixed bikes on the streets of Riga and participated in a bike ride in Belarus during the European Mobility Week.
Most of the Europeans participate in European Mobility Week is since 2002, including Latvians.
Every year the mobility week has a different topic, this year it was smart and sustainable mobility- an investment for Europe.
Bike to Work campaign opened the European Mobility week in Latvia. 42 countries participated in 1537 events where Europeans were invited to choose healthier and more sustainable means of transportation.
Bike to Work day on 16th of September all Latvians were invited to choose cycling instead of other means of transportation. Cyclists in Riga from 7:30-9:30 were greeted at the Monument of Freedom with hot coffee and healthy snacks.
Every bicycle owner with the help of our messengers could check the condition of their bike or register their bike if they hadn’t done it yet.
Bike to Work was part of European Commission initiated campaign Smart Citizen/European Mobility Week in partnership with Environment Protection and Regional Development Ministry, CSDD, Traffic Department of Riga City Council and Latvian Cyclists’ Union. Campaign invited citizens to try different healthy and environment friendly means of transportation, analyzing which is most convenient in each situation meanwhile solving problems of European Citizens, reducing traffic jams, pollution from cars and improve the health condition.
During Mobility week cycle messengers with friends went to Belarus to participate in Grodno Cyclists’ Union organized bike ride. The event was organized in partnership with local police to take care of the cyclists during the event.
The aim of the event was to pay attention to the fact that we can choose healthier and more environment friendly means of transportation every day as well as promote cycling as convenient mean of transportation in cities.
